Nanjing Medical University (NMU) is a comprehensive university in Nanjing, originally established in Zhenjiang City 1934. NMU comprises two major campuses, Wutai campus and Jiangning campus. The School of Public Health (SPH), Nanjing Medical University (NJMU), traces its root to the Department of Public Health at the National Jiangsu Medical College in 1940s as one of the earliest professional training programs in public health and preventive medicine education in China. In 1958, our SPH started degree education of bachelor of preventive medicine. Today, the school also offers programs of PhD, MSc and MPH degrees in public health and preventive medicine.

Our SPH comprises 7 departments (Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Maternal Child and Adolescent Health, Social Medicine and Health Education, Hygienic Analysis and Detection) and 3 research centers (the State Experimental Teaching Center of Preventive Medicine, the Public Health Emergency Consultation and Research Center and the Hygienic Analysis and Detection Center). The school has 115 faculty and staff members, including 23 professors and 15 associate professors. In recent years, the faculty of the school have received lots of great honors and distinguished awards both in teaching and research areas, e.g. the MOE Cheung Kong Scholar Professor, the National Distinguished Young Scientist and the National Excellent Teacher. Our School now have 543 undergraduate students, 176 postgraduate students, 304 MPH students, and 48 PhD candidates.

With our great efforts, the SPH has built up the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine, the MOE Key Laboratory of Modern Toxicology, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Cancer Biomarkers, Prevention and Treatment, and the National Experimental Teaching Center. Based on these platforms and facilities, our faculty, staff and students have actively participated in a lot of public health-related research projects that are widely involved in all disciplines of the school. Meanwhile, teaching and training are also the focus of the school and the quality of our teaching programs is very competitive in the nation. In addition, we serve the society intensively and extensively with our advanced technology in the field of toxicology evaluation, which is rewarding for the school in both social reputation and economic benefits. Our discipline of “public health and preventive medicine” has been ranked 4th in the nation in 2008 and 3rd in 2012 by MOE of China.
