Ioannis Tsamardinos
Ioannis Tsamardinos is currently Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department of University of Crete. He acquired his M.Sc. and Ph.D. (in 2001) from the Intelligent Systems Program of University of Pittsburgh.
His research interests lie in the field of Machine Learning and Data Analytics and particularly variable selection and causal discovery. He has mostly applied such methods on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Informatics. Prof. Tsamardinos has over 70 publications in international conferences, journals, and edited volumes and 2 US patents. He has given several tutorials and invited talks on the subject of causality. Distinctions with colleagues and students include the best performance in one of the four tasks in the First Causality Challenge Competition, ISMB 2005 Best Poster Winner, a Gold Medal in the Student Paper Competition in MEDINFO 2004, the Outstanding Student Paper Award in AIPS 2000, the NASA Group Achievement Award for participation in the Remote Agent team and others. Statistics on recognition include about 4500+ citations to his published work and an h-index of 29.
Vincenzo Lagani, Ph.D.
Dr Lagani recieved his Ph.D. in Operations Research in 2009, Department of Electronics, Informatics and Systems of the University of Calabria. His Ph.D. regarded the development of new Machine Learning techniques and their application on clinical/medical data analysis tasks. Currently he is working as Research Staff at Bioinformatics Laboratory, ICS-FORTH. He has participated in several funded EU and Italian research projects (REACTION, HEARTFAID, MIMERICA).

Giorgos Papoutsoglou, Ph.D.
Giorgos Papoutsoglou was born in Athens, Greece. He received the Bachelor and Master in Engineering degrees from the Electronic and Computer Engineering School of the Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, in 2005. In 2007 and 2014 he received the Master of Science in Engineering and the Doctor’s of Philosophy degrees from the same School. Currently, he is working as Research Staff at the Bioinformatics Laboratory in ICS-FORTH.
During his studies he has attended a number of international long-lasting seminars, organized by EU Universities, in the fields of his research. For his Ph.D. research Dr. Papoutsoglou has been awarded with a fellowship by the EU/Greek doctorate support program “Heraclitus”. He has also served the ECE School as a Teaching Assistant. His research interests include dynamic contrast enhanced optical imaging, system’s biology, pharmaco-kinetic/dynamic compartmental analysis and modeling, parameter estimation methods in dynamic biological processes, methods of causal inference from time-series observational data and induction of graphical models from biomedical data.
Sofia Triantafillou
is a finishing Ph.D. Candidate at the Computer Science Department at University of Crete (CSD-UoC) under the supervision of Prof. Ioannis Tsamardinos. B.Sc. from Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences at National Technical University of Athens; M.Sc. degree in 2010 from CSD-UoC.

Giorgos Borboudakis
is finishing his M.Sc. at the Department of Computer Science at University of Crete with the PI as supervisor. He received his B.Sc. (Grade 9.25/10) in June 2010 from the Department of Computer Science at University of Crete ranking 1st university-wide in the 2010 graduation and 7th in the history of the Department (1984-2010)). He is the recipient of two fellowships from State Scholarship Foundation Greece (2007-2008 and 2009-2010).

Prof Jesper Tegnér
Chief Scientific Officer, (PhD, MK Medicine, MSc Mathematics) Strategic Professor of Computational Medicine. Extensive expertise in bioinformatics, machine learning, systems and network biology, and computational mathematics. He has over 15 years experience in integration of theory, algorithms, simulations, and experimental results. Tegnér has published more than 100 papers since 2002. His team was a winner of the international DREAM competition 2008 on network identification. He is currently partner in one FP6 (PROCARDIS) and three FP7 computational biology projects (DOPAMINET, SYNERGY-COPD, VPH-NoE) and serves on the editorial board for BMC Systems Biology and IET Systems Biology. Founder of two BioIT companies.

David Gomez-Cabrero
PhD Mathematics, MSc Statistics and Operations Research. Expert in probabilistic modeling, applied mathematics, and bioinformatics. Project leader in three European FP7 projects; SYNERGY-COPD, DOPAMINET and VPH-Noe.

Angelika Schmidt
Ph.D., Dr. Angelika Schmidt, Postdoc in experimental T cell immunology. Ph.D. in Immunology: T cell signaling & regulatory T cells. Diplom (equivalent: MSc) biology; major topics during advanced studies: genetics, biochemistry, cell and developmental biology. Provides theoretical and experimental expertise in immunology, T cell biology, cell signaling, biochemistry and molecular biology.
